At the post office
I'm standing in line at the post office, which I purposefully went to after the noon lunch hour to avoid the line. All I need are stamps, but of course not the kind of stamp sold at the vending machine.
Three people are working the counter, or six people in line per clerk. Everyone looks miserable. They also look like they could be creating a lot more value anywhere but here.
CVS - where I need to stop anyway - doesn't sell stamps, and why would they when there's no money to be made in it. I think I would be very willing to pay a slight mark - up on stamps - maybe two or three cents per - if I could buy them at CVS. Would you?
We're down to two clerks. Suddenly everyone looks a little more miserable...

misery... misery... I've always wondered if people would be willing to pay more for stamps with pictures on them, as opposed to the generic flag. I would def. pay more for stamps in order to be able to get them at a convienent location. Or just to be able to not ever go into the post office. I love your comment on value elsewhere... very, very true.
Well, I there is www.stamps.com, which lets you print stamps with your pictures on them (or NASCAR - take your pick).
So the free market is there to improve your life and let you avoid the post office, so long as you don't need the stamps right now!!
